Let’s Celebrate, Chicago!

May is here, the sun is finally out, and spring has sprung! We only have about 100 days of warm weather, so that means many celebrations and fairs through Chicago. May is a busy month full of holidays: Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. May kicks off the celebration with Cinco de Mayo, an annual celebration held on May 5^th. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, a tiny history lesson here, but in the United States Cinco de Mayo has taken on a significance beyond that in Mexico. This celebration is more popularly celebrated in the United States, originally started in California since 1863. Since then, Cinco de Mayo generates beer sales equal to those for Super Bowl.

On a more heartfelt note, Mother’s Day is always special – nothing is greater than the bond with a mother! On this day we honor the mother of the family, motherhood, the maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers to society. Although mothers should be appreciated daily, it is nice to have a day dedicated to them and appreciate all the hard work they do. A mother’s job is never done, they are on the clock 24/7.

While we’re talking about honoring those who impact our lives, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day are among the important days that need to be observed. Armed Forces Day is the day to honor military forces around the world. In the United States, this day is dedicated to appreciate all active duty service members and is not to be confused with Memorial Day. On the other hand, Memorial Day is a federal holiday for remembering and honoring persons who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Let’s get back to the fun! Artful Smiles Dental Studio is getting ready to kick off the summer with Evanston at the Custer Fair. The Custer Fair is an Evanston tradition since 1972 stretching from the historic Main St. and Chicago Ave to the residential Washington St. over 300 local and regional artist, crafts people, and commercial vendors will come together to host a family fun festival. There will be lots of food, entertainment for children, as well as some of Chicagoland’s jazz legends. Come out and say Hello!
