Make Your Mouth More Kissable for Valentine’s Day!

February 6, 2018

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so let’s talk about one of the sexiest parts of the human body: the mouth. What did you think I was going to talk about?

A simple smile is a powerful show of emotion and can be instrumental in a successful romantic date. A healthy smile is beneficial for attraction, whereas food stuck between teeth is one of the greatest turn-offs.

Kissing is likely on your mind this Valentine’s Day. Here are some little facts about kissing that I found interesting:

  • French kissing involves all 34 facial muscles. Great work out for you cheek muscles – helps to keep them tight and toned. Nice!
  • According to research, passionate kissing can burn about 5 calories in seconds – that’s a lot. So, Fitbit should add kissing to its activity list.
  • Kissing is good for teeth. It increases saliva flow and therefore cleans of plaque and neutralizes cavity causing acids.
  • Kissing makes one feel better and even live longer. Based on recent research, release of endorphins and oxytocin during a kiss can also reduce stress, boost immunity and increase a feeling of happiness. This is why we like kissing so much.

So now that I have you attention, let’s talk about how you can increase your kissability.

Beware of Bad Breath
Daily habits like brushing, flossing, and seeing your dentist regularly are important in curbing bad breath causing bacteria. Adding sugarless gum, alcohol free mouthwashes, and tongue cleaners can also help with staying fresh.
Kiss Diss Foods: Garlic, onions, tuna, peanuts, horseradish, and dairy
High Kissbility Foods: Water, fruits and vegetables (especially those high in vitamin C), mint leaves, and parsley

Smoking is NOT Attractive
Smoking causes bad breath and stains teeth. It is a catalyst for gum disease and premature loss of teeth. Smokers are twice as likely to develop sore, bleeding gums and far more at risk for cancer. Give yourself a gift this Valentine’s Day and stop smoking.

Brighten Your Smile
Smiling with confidence is attractive. Whitening teeth is the easiest way to feel better about yours. There are a number of different ways to brighten up a smile, ranging from over-the- counter to in-office treatments. Talk to your dentist about what option will work best for you.

See Your Dentist Regularly
Everyone needs professional help. Regular checkups and cleanings can help you keep your mouth at its best all year long. If you have any concerns, such as teeth color, bad breath or you’re at all unhappy with your smile, discuss it with your dental professional. We are here to help!

From all of us here at Artful Smiles Dental Studio, we wish you happy Valentine’s Day! We are here to help you love your mouth.
